If you are on the Exede Classic, Evolution or Essential plan, you have a Free Zone. These times vary based on when you signed up for your plan. If you have a classic plan, it’s likely from midnight to 5 a.m. If you have the Evolution or Essential plan, it’s likely from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Either way, you get 5 hours to download as much as you want without incurring any additional fees. If you have have a Free Zone, you need to be using it! You can save your high speed daytime usage by following these 4 ways to use your Late Night Free Zone.
# Ways to Use Your Free Zone
1. Update your computer (and anti-virus software)
You may already have your computer to update during the free zone, but something you might not know is that you can schedule your computer to turn on and off too. You shouldn’t stay up all night to use your Late Night Free Zone, and neither should your computer; let it go to sleep too. You can follow these instructions if you are using Windows, or these instructions if you are using a Mac. After you’ve set up your computer, it’s time to schedule your Windows updates, or Mac OS updates (this one is more complex), and your anti-virus software (visit your anit-virus website for the best solution).
2. Schedule downloads from websites
If you are using Firefox, you can use that very handy download scheduler to make sure nothing downloads until the time you set. If you are using another browser, you have a lot to choose from. Just go to download.cnet.com and choose the right download manager for you. Now when you browse the web and see a PDF, picture, video, or something else you might want to check out later, you schedule it to download later.
3. Download video games at night
You may not have the best latency when playing video games online, but that does not mean you cannot play them at all! If you are using a client like Steam, you can schedule your video games to download during the Late Night Free Zone. If you do choose to play video games online, make sure that they do not take up a lot of data, or get a plan that allows for you to have more data. If you have a really good cellphone plan, you can even make your cellphone a WiFi hot spot and use that data instead. It all depends on what route will save you the most data.
4. Use NightShift to stream Netflix
A Late Night Free Zone is your gateway to having as much Netflix as you can pre-load. NightShift is sort of like the download scheduler mentioned before, but it does not save anything to your computer. Instead, it stores the content locally on a router. This is actually better than saving it on your computer because this way you can stream the content to up to 3 screens. When you have NightShift, all you need to do is choose what you want to watch, select it, let it pre-load over night, and you are set!
